| “ | Those naughty Frog Babies — why are they always getting into trouble? Perhaps it's because they're so inquisitive and playful, or maybe because they have little sense of danger or direction! Whenever they see Frogger or Lillie Frog they'll jump for joy. If they're not picked up, they'll croak in dismay. Don't miss any-there are five to find in each level. | „ |
| ~ Description from the Swampy's Revenge instruction manual |
Baby Frogs, or Frog Babies, are recurring characters in the Frogger series. They are little froglets that are scattered through the levels of a game and which Frogger must find and rescue. They were introduced in the first series reboot Frogger from 1997, and reappeared in Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge and Frogger 2 for the Game Boy Color.
A playable baby frog named Tad appears in Swampy's Revenge, and another unnamed Baby Frog later appeared in Frogger: Helmet Chaos.
Description[]
It's up to Frogger to rescue the Baby Frogs over the course of the games they appear in. Each level contains five frogs that Frogger must look for: red, purple, blue, yellow, and light green.
Appearances[]
Frogger (1997)[]
A single level in each zone contains a Gold Frog that can be released in a temple located in Tropical Trouble to unlock the ending.
Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge[]
According to the instruction manual, the Frog Babies are Lillie Frog's siblings.
Like in the prequel, the objective in Swampy's Revenge is to find and rescue the five Frog Babies that are scattered throughout each level. However, this time the Frog Babies are much easier to locate, as they are usually found along the main path of each level, and instead they mainly serve as checkpoints (apart from the other scripted checkpoints); if the player dies, they'll respawn on the same location the last Frog Baby was rescued.
Tad is a named frog baby who is lucky enough to escape from Swampy's machines. He becomes playable during the final level of the game, Windup, where he has to release Frogger and Lillie from the cage Swampy has trapped them in.

Trivia[]
- The instruction manual for Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge states the Frog Babies are Lillie Frog's little siblings, although the game's cutscenes may imply they were intended to be Frogger and Lillie's children instead. Further supporting this, the unnamed Baby Frog from Frogger: Helmet Chaos calls Dr. Finnius –Frogger's grandfather– "Great-Grandpa", implying he is Frogger's son (likely with Lillie). It is thus possible that the idea of Frogger and Lillie being married could have been scrapped at some point during development of Frogger 1997, although this is just speculation.
- Even though they are referred to as "babies", they appear as small froglets with fully developed legs instead of tadpoles, although they do still conserve a little tail.
- The character Tad seemingly alludes to this irony with his name.
