Butterfly in the Stomach? is a boss stage in Frogger: Helmet Chaos and the only boss exclusive to the Beach path.

Description[]

The titular boss, the Butterfly, is an insect that hatches upon Frogger High Jumping and using his tongue on its cocoon three times. It has a yellow head and tuft of hair around where its thorax may be, a green abdomen, and mostly blue wings with yellow and green patterns on them.

It is unknown how the Butterfly made its way into, or survived being eaten by the Fish, but it may be parasitic in nature like many of the enemies of the locale seem to be. It may have attacked Frogger in self-defense, emerging shortly after its cocoon was disturbed.

Boss Fight and Strategy[]

HC Butterfly (2)

The Butterfly before emerging from its cocoon.

Before the fight begins, Frogger must High Jump + Tongue the cocoon three times to make the Butterfly emerge from inside it. After a short (sort of) threatening display, it will fly away to one of the sides of the arena and begin its assault.

The Butterfly will fly diagonally across the arena in-between its attacks. Frogger has to use the four pillars(?) in order to damage the Butterfly. He can do this by using a High Jump and then using his Tongue at the height of his jump. The direction the pillar will strike is based on where Frogger tongues their tops. Vertically if hit from the bottom or top, and horizontally if hit from the sides. After being damaged, the Butterfly will attempt to follow Frogger's path while laying down a path of its scales behind it. The Butterfly as well as its scales will damage Frogger if he touches them.

Attacks[]

  • The names for attacks are all conjectural. Replace with the official names when a source is found
Attack Name Description How to Dodge
Tornadoes
HC Butterfly (3)
HC Butterfly (5)
-The Butterfly will whip up a tornado by spinning around and then flying away. There are four types of tornadoes. The first is a single tornado flying straight ahead.

-The second, after the boss has taken some damage, the tornado will begin to zig-zag. Its hitbox is actually only a single tile, so some places next to the pillars are actually safe.

-The more the Butterfly is damaged, it will create two tornadoes with the same properties as the previous attacks. They fly straight, and then in a zig-zig formation when its low on health. Stay out of the middle of the arena.

Single Tornado- Simply stay out of its path of travel and you'll be safe.

Single Zig-Zag Tornado- If you're low on health, simply stay out of the middle of the arena entirely.

Double Tornado- Same strategy as the Zig-Zag Single.

Double Zig-Zag Tornado- Stay close to the corners of the arena that the moth likely won't travel to.

Scale Trap
HC Butterfly (6)
The Butterfly will spread its scales in a checkboard pattern vertically and then horizontally across the arena. After this, it will circle the outside of the arena fully before attacking once again. After its done spreading scales across the floor, it gives you a big window of opportunity to deal damage. You can dodge this attack just by staying out of the Butterfly's way when it goes vertically and horizontally.
Revenge Chase
HC Butterfly (4)
After the Butterfly is damaged, it will begin to chase Frogger while spreading its scales behind it. After a short amount of time, it will fly to a section of the arena to do another attack. All you have to do to dodge this attack is to keep hopping away from the Butterfly. Don't go for attacks as the boss is invulnerable until it hits Frogger or stops chasing him.

Double Damage Trick[]

While the Butterfly isn't a hard boss by Frogger standards, if the player has enough health, they can actually hit the boss during the Revenge Chase attack. If the Butterfly is after Frogger and is travelling in a cardinal direction, Frogger can hit the pillar in the direction of the Butterfly, take damage, and hit it as soon as it becomes vulnerable. For example, if the Butterfly is heading south towards Frogger, Frogger should be behind the pillar and face the boss. Once the boss is nearly on top of the pillar, Frogger should hit the pillar with a Jumping Tongue. If done correctly, Frogger should take damage, and the boss should also shortly after.

The timing is precise as Frogger needs to take damage while the pillar is still active. You would only need 6 health to get the double-hit 5 times (as the boss has 10 health) and Beach path has more than enough Health Containers to easily clear that number (the player can have 12 Health by this point).
