Papa Lion, referred to by the Sketches as simply "Lion", is a character in Frogger: Ancient Shadow and the boss of the White Savannah. He is the king of the Beast Tribe and the father of Lion Cub.
Description and Battle[]
Papa Lion has yellow fur with a brownish-orange mane and wears a blue vest with a blue loincloth. He also wears a belt that seems to have the Beast or Lion Clan's crest on it. He also has two white, claw-like markings on the back of his hands. When under the effects of the Amulet of Mastery, he grows significantly larger and his eyes become entirely red. During the events of, or sometime before Frogger gets to, the White Savannah, Dr. Wani steals the Amulet of Mastery and uses it to make the savannah's inhabitants act strange, including Lion Cub's father. After promising that he'll help little lion's papa, Frogger arrives at some ruins, where a berserk Papa Lion awaits him.
During the battle, Papa Lion will climb up the walls of the ruins and rain down rocks in an attempt to hurt Frogger. Initially, these rocks form a 3x3 square that Frogger must avoid. After being damaged, these rocks will instead rain down on random tiles. This attack can be avoided by waiting for a rock to fall and then hopping to that tile, as the rocks do not hit any tile twice. After these attacks, three black slabs of stone will fall from the ceiling. Frogger must push these three slabs together, and if done correctly, the stone will begin to glow. After doing this, Frogger must stand either behind or in front of the center of the stone to lure Papa Lion into attacking the stone. It will then reflect the attack and deal damage to the boss. After doing this a total of four times, the boss is defeated.
Sketches[]
While there isn't a lot of information within the Sketches of Area 2, there are two of note. The first, Sketch 12, shows Papa Lion under the influence of the Amulet of Mastery, with a description that reads "The Amulet of Mastery has unleashed the Beast Clan’s King’s feral instincts." In Sketch 13, the one with the text "LION Father & Children", there is a small blurb of Japanese text that, when translated, reads: "Rulers of the Beast Clan, the Lion Clan. Among the relics that have been guarded for generations, one was a book written on ancient matters and a stone with strange powers. Though this duty remained over the years, the reason for doing them has been lost to time." This actually shares close similarities to what Papa Lion says after returning him to normal, albeit with some slight changes.

- This is the first boss that Berry sends Frogger a letter with a hint on how to defeat it. In the letter "Turning point", she says that a hero with no weapon defeated an enemy by reflecting their attacks, just like Frogger does during the fight.
- The book that Papa Lion gives to Frogger and Finnius has the crest of Horippa Cikir on its cover, implying a connection between the Beast Clan and Firefly Swamp's hero.
