Frogger's Adventures: Temple of the Frog[]

"Lumpy is a wise-cracking old Cajun toad, as well as Frogger's best friend. Lumpy is always nervous, and every little sound makes him jumpy. He is full of advice for Frogger and always has his friend's best interests at heart."

Frogger Beyond[]

The Rescue, Helmet Chaos, Ancient Shadow[]

"Frogger's friend and guardian. He often journeys to exotic lands, but never returns to Firefly Swamp without souvenirs for both Frogger and Lily."

Appearance[]

In his introduction in Frogger: The Great Quest, Lumpy appears as a large and old toad who wears a brown and seemingly old top hat whose crown now leans toward the front, as well as a brown leather vest, which overall gives him the appearance of a wise vagabond. In this first iteration of the character, he isn't very mobile and instead usually acts as Frogger's mentor, the latter who comes visit him everything he needs advice or just to pass the time. While this design continued on the following games, a few changes could progressively be seen throughout his following appearances, with a more refined look each time.

However, in his 2003 reappearance in Frogger's Adventures: The Rescue, Lumpy went through a complete redesign, both physically as well as in personality. He lost his older, vagabond-like appearance and instead became much younger and more anthropomorphic –with longer arms and legs–, and exchanged the top hat and vest for a yellow t-shit and short brownish-red pants held with suspenders. He also became much more agile and now can often be seen accompanying Frogger in his adventures, even becoming playable in some games. This design became Lumpy's standard look and he can be seen this way in almost all following games and related media released ever since, just with a few slight modifications.

History[]

Frogger: The Great Quest[]

Lumpy tells Frogger that there are stories of a magical world beyond the swamp. After the Fairy Frog Mother visits Frogger and grants him three powerful wishes, Lumpy lets Frogger venture to find a princess.

Frogger: Helmet Chaos[]

Lumpy and Frogger go on a fishing trip on what appeared to be an ordinary day. It was going well until Frogger decided to fetch a Moonfruit from a tree that was out of his guardian's reach. While he was gone, Lumpy sat down by the dock to have lunch when a Mini-Croc sneaked up from behind and placed a mind control helmet on it. This caused him to be one of the first victims of Dr. Wani's plot to take over the world. Lumpy aimlessly drops his sandwich and leaves the lake, prompting Frogger to follow his trail.

Depending on the decisions taken by the player (mainly when choosing a path with Herald), Lumpy can become a playable character in a couple of stages. While his movement is slower than Frogger's, if he eats a certain food he is allergic to, he will inflate to great proportions and be able to roll through the levels, even being able to run over some enemies.

Trivia[]

  • In his introduction in Frogger: The Great Quest, Lumpy is first met in River Town and he seems to hail from there. However, as the series progressed and different styles and settings were added or modified to the overall storyline, apparently Lumpy was changed to hail from Firefly Swamp instead.
