If the player dwindles for too long on the horizontal riverbank that divides the highway and river sections, a hungry snake will soon appear and try to eat them. However, only the head of the snake is lethal and making contact with the rest of its body is harmless.
Likewise, in the river section, another snake will sometimes appear slithering on the longer logs that float on the third lane. This variant usually starts appearing from the third level and onward in most versions of the game.
Frogger: The Great Quest[]
| “ | Ol' Rattle Butts are a danger for Frogger throughout the Third Kingdom. They are a real nuisance and can do Frogger a lot of damage if he is not careful. They are lazy though, and stay only in their own territories waiting for victims. | „ |

Snakes are encountered in The Tree of Knowledge, The Dark Trail Ruins, and The Dark Trail (PC).
